    Power of expression fit for the generation of games with shader programs was fused with the skills of craftsmen equipped with strong power of imagination. Supported by the highly efficient mass production environment, the team struck a fine balance between overwhelming quality and unimaginable quantity. The team succeeded in showing us one direction we can take to reach the ultimate peak of Japanese-style visuals.

    Technology to Turn Impasto Illustration into Animation; an Evolution of 2D Visuals Oboromuramasa Development Team (VANILLAWARE Ltd.)

    選考理由

    In order to overcome the pattern count issue, which often restricts 2D renditions, the team split the visuals into parts and implemented a higher-level fusion of the turning, moving, and scaling of each part with the pattern change. Expressions unique to hand-painting, such as brush strokes and smears, are fully present in the lively moving images. The team uniquely succeeded in showing a broader horizon of artistic expressions in 2D games.

    ONatural and Attractive Renditions of Animated Characters in 3D

    選考理由

    The team took a challenge early on to create animated characters with real-time rendering for the HD versions of game machines. The team adopted technologies for shading and moving objects such as hair and outfits and realized 3D renditions of animated characters that moved really smoothly.

    High-density Graphics and Its Optimization Vanquish Development Team (Platinum Games Inc.)

    選考理由

    Based on state-of-the-art technologies, most notably deferred rendering, the team succeeded in creating a unique TPS experience with a real sense of speed, by meticulous coordination of resources such as highly sophisticated landscapes of a future civilization and enormous volume of special effects.

    One Form of Perfection in Real-time NPR Street Fighter IV Series Design Team (Capcom Co., Ltd.)

    選考理由

    The team succeeded in real-time graphics with a type of NPR called water-color rendering, instead of simple toon rendering. The whole assortment of the effects created by a fine balance between the high-level rendering technology and modeling technology, which enabled meticulous silhouette designs, earned the nomination.
